  • Royal Mail announces new postage rates for 2017
  • Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

Royal Mail LogoRoyal Mail has now released details of the new postage rates from 2nd January 2017.

The main changes are to the bulk services, Business Mail rates will increase by 2.8% and Advertising Mail rates by 1%.

If you are planning a mailing in early January then consider sending it prior to the 2nd January to avoid the increase. Please talk to us about scheduling your mailing in.

Also, Royal Mail has confirmed that the old CBC Barcode service will be phased out at the end of December 2017 leaving the Mailmark service as the only barcoded mail service available. To gain maximum postage discount customers need to contact Royal Mail to have their OBA accounts set up with the Mailmark Service. This is all you need to do because Cambertown will manage the whole Mailmark process for you to ensure you don’t miss out on the available postage discounts.

If you need any more information or advice please give us a call.

Have a Good Christmas break from us all at Cambertown

  • Cambertown this month celebrated it’s 30th birthday.
  • Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

30-years-logoManaging Director Terry Sorfleet, who founded the company, said, “I can’t believe how quickly the last 30 years have flown. One minute we’re printing labels from floppy disks and sticking stamps on envelopes, the next we’re grabbing data from the ‘cloud’ and digitally printing stamps on envelopes! But the most encouraging thing of all is that mailing is still as effective today as it was 30 years ago. Perhaps even more so because today we can very accurately profile and target customers for our clients and produce highly personalised, digitally printed mailing pieces rather than taking the old ‘scatter gun’ approach to bulk mailing.

Terry added “I’m also amazed with how quickly the online market has developed. The internet didn’t exist 30 years ago and today we can’t live without it and in fact it generates over 80% of the orders in our fulfilment division that we despatch for our mail order clients”.

Terry gave a huge thank you to all the staff, clients and suppliers that he’s worked with over the last 30 years and said “I just can’t imagine what the next 30 years are going to bring but let’s hope we don’t revert to printing from floppies and licking stamps!”

  • Royal Mail announces price ‘changes’ from 3rd January 2017
  • Tuesday, November 1st, 2016

Royal Mail LogoWe’ve had notification that Royal Mail prices will ‘change’ from 3rd January 2017.

Although Royal Mail weren’t specific, we assume that the ‘change’ will be an increase in current rates.

The main services to be affected will be Advertising Mail, Business Mail and Publishing Mail and we’ll let you know the new rates as soon as we get them from Royal Mail.

If you’re planning any mailings in early January then perhaps consider mailing before the 3rd January deadline to avoid any potential postage increases. Please talk to us about scheduling these in over the Christmas period should you wish to do this.

Also we anticipate that the price changes will make the new ‘Mailmark’ service even better value for mailings when compared with other services so if you’re not already using Mailmark then now is the time to talk to us about the benefits that you get from the Mailmark Service.

  • Cambertown gains Soil Association Certification
  • Thursday, July 14th, 2016

Cambertown is now certified by the Soil Association for the handling and marketing of Organic Products.Soil Asscociation logo_001

Cambertown Quality Manager Sharron Mirfin says ‘This is beneficial to both current and potential new clients that we store and distribute Organic Products for because it ensures that their products are handled in line with the requirements of the Soil Association’s organic standards. With the sharp increase in the types of products that we are storing and distributing through online sales, Cambertown needs to be in a position to offer it’s clients and their customers the assurances that this type of certification provides and which complement our ISO9001 quality accreditation.’

  • Cambertown invests in new colour digital press
  • Wednesday, March 16th, 2016

Cambertown has this week had a new Bizhub Colour Digital Press installed. This addition to the print department will increase Cambertown’s digital colour print capabilities not only in output terms but also in print quality and types of paper and card stocks that can be specified.

Managing Director Terry Sorfleet said this week, ‘we are seeing a rise in the demand for personalised, digitally colour printed items from our mailing clients and this equipment now sees us well placed to satisfy this demand. This new press also allows us to colour print personalised envelopes which a number of our clients are eager to switch to because it removes the need to have pre-printed colour envelopes in stock. The other benefit is that the envelope design can be changed for each mailing they do creating a freshness to each new mailing.’

Cambertown will also be offering a beefed up ‘colour print on demand’ service to it’s fulfilment clients to help them reduce the need for holding stocks of printed items.

  • Royal Mail Price Changes
  • Monday, October 6th, 2014

Royal Mail has today informed us that their proposed price ‘changes’ that were due to take place in March 2015 will now be introduced on 5th January 2015. The main bulk mailing services that this will affect are Business Mail, Advertising Mail and Publishing Mail.

Although Royal Mail hasn’t given any indication what these price ‘changes’ will be yet, they say they will let us know on 5th December.

Assuming that the price ‘change’ will be an upward one, if you are planning any mailings in early January it may be worth considering carrying them out at the end of December. Once we have more specific details about these changes, we’ll let you know.

  • Important Changes to Freepost and Business Reply Service
  • Monday, June 16th, 2014

Just a reminder that from 7th November 2014 Royal Mail will require a Barcode of your licence number to be printed on the front of any Freepost or Business Reply envelopes that you mail out. Royal Mail says that after this date they could surcharge customers who send out reply envelopes without the barcode.

We suggest that if you have any existing stocks of these, you try and use them up before the 7th November deadline

Alternatively, rather than waste them, Cambertown can overprint these for you with the correct barcode so let us know if this service is of interest

If you are ordering any more Freepost or Business Reply envelopes please ensure that the licence number barcode is printed on them to avoid Royal Mail surcharging you. The artwork for this can be generated on the Royal Mail web site and the address for this is

http://www.royalmail.com/marketing-services-regular/deliver-your-campaign/business-reply-freepost-plus

The site gives instructions about how to do this and you will need your licence number handy before it lets you generate anything, but if you’d like any help with this then please let us know

  • Royal Mail Price Increase 31st March 2014
  • Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Royal Mail has now confirmed that their prices will increase on 31st March 2014.
If you have any mailings that need to go out during March they will need to be with Royal Mail by Friday 28th March to avoid the new rates being applied. If you were considering carrying out a mailing in April then it may well be worth doing it March if you can, to keep your postage cost down.

Although the price of a 2nd class postage stamp will increase by 3 pence per item, the rates for the various bulk business sorted mail services have increased by around 2 pence per item.

Of the increase Royal Mail said: ‘Royal Mail’s stamp prices are among the best value in Europe. The European average for First Class letters up to 100g is 67p. The UK First Class stamp price remains well below this. The European average for Second Class letters, up to 100g, is 60p; the UK Second Class stamp price remains well below this’

If you’d like to know how the changes will affect your own mailings then please contact us and we’ll work the difference out for you.
